What did you think of last night’s Wade and Zoey’s [spoiler]?

We knew it was too good to last. Wade and Zoey broke up in last night’s heartbreaking twist. I’m not sure what’s worse: Wade cheating on Zoe or that the writers couldn’t come up with a better end game for these two.

Sure, we get it, Wade felt insecure and not worthy. He felt the pressure to perform and succeed. Suddenly, everything was working his way and he freaked. So, he purposely sabotaged his band, his future, and his relationship. That’s a lot to come crashing down in one night – but Wade successfully managed to do it.

I had high hopes that nothing happened. That our darling bartender came to his senses before anything happened. And poor Zoey, so happy that her boyfriend only got drunk in his car in a field. Her suspicions were unfounded and her happiness two-fold when Wade started acting sweet and romantic. Leave it to Tansy to sniff him out – ends up she had experience with “she needed her battery jumped” excuse.

After a chat with Wanda’s impetuous mom, Betsy (played with perfection by Debra Jo Rupp) where Betsy discussed how she knew her husband had cheated. The realization that Wade fit every category made Zoey realize the truth. You have to give credit to Rachel Bilson as you could see the light of happiness fading from Zoey’s face.

It was almost heartbreaking when Wade came up to her, “Zoey.” He said.

And she responded with a whisper, “I know.”

It was heart wrenching. Wade had come so far in this relationship – into a man that we trusted. For him to cheat is such an easy way out. Yes, we all know that in TV, we must keep things moving and suspenseful and no one can be happy for too long. However, the past few episodes show how strong these writers are that they have been able to keep Wade and Zoey together and still keep the show fun, funny, and entertaining.
